Data Security Toolkit

For organisations wanting a high level of data security during the print production process, PrintSoft has developed a Data Security Toolkit for real time encryption and decryption of data files. This toolkit ensures data security during transmission via non-secure networks (eg FTP, e-mail), and prevents non authorised use of data files.

The toolkit consists of three basic modules:

• Encryption Application
• Real-time Decrypting PReS Module
• Key and Certificate Generator

Encryption
Data files are encrypted by the Encryption Module which can be integrated into a work flow with the system that generates the data file.

Decryption
The data file is decrypted in real time during PReS processing. The Real Time Decryption Module decrypts the input data file record-by-record.

There are no unencrypted temporary data files generated by the system at anytime during the whole process. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to copy (or steal) decrypted data files during the printing process.

Conversion of standard PReS applications to a secure system is simple and can be performed in a few hours.

The Key and Certificate Generator
The Key and Certificate Generator generates an RSA private key for data decryption and a certificate (public key) for data encryption. The Generator uses the X.509 standard. The generated key is password protected.

The Key and Certificate Generator as well as the Encryption Module are multiplatform applications (available for Windows and UNIX).

Coding Standards
Data files are encrypted by the 3-DES symmetric code with a unique 3-DES key. The use of symmetric code is necessary for
real-time decryption. The unique 3-DES key is encrypted by the RSA asymmetric code. The X.509 standard is used.

Case Studies
Ceska Sporitelna a.s. – The Czech Saving Bank, the largest retail bank in the Czech Republic, has implemented a secure data solution for the printing of credit card PINs. It contains a special module for prohibiting the second processing (printing) of data files. A barcode reader automatically processes all requests for generation of data files for reprint. The whole processing history is stored in log files and security service cameras monitor the production area.

Kooperativa pojistovna – the second largest insurance company in the Czech Republic uses the PReS Data Security Toolkit to prevent any possibility of non-authorised usage of confidential data files. It is planned to use the toolkit for most data inputs.
