PReS PDLs
PReS 2000 supports all the modern production printing PDLs;
PCL, Postscript, AFP/IPDS, Xerox Metacode and Kodak Versamark IJPDS
and also provides support for Line and Page mode printers:
IPDS/PReS
This version supports the IBM IPDS (Intelligent Printer Data
Stream) protocol for data transfer between host computer and
printer. IPDS/PReS thus supports a wide range of IBM printers
and also printers such as those from Océ, Hitachi, Xeikon,
Xerox (IPS systems) which emulate IBM printers.
PReS connects to IPDS printers through a channel interface
card supplied by PrintSoft, or through optional SCSI and TCP/IP
drivers.
Among others, PReS currently supports the following IPDS printers
- Océ 2050, 2070, 2090, 2140, 2240, PAGESTREAM XEROX IPS/4xxx
NIPSON 7000.
PReS supports the following IPDS resource files: IPF, IPI,
Tiff, IOCA and IPG files and more. Double Byte supported.
PostScript/PReS
PS/PReS supports a variety of PostScript printers from desktop
types , through mid-range printers to high-speed production
printers. PReS supports the following PostScript resource
files: outline and bitmapped PostScript fonts and graphics.
Full color is supported in both RGB and CMYK modes. Among
others, PS/PReS supports printers from Xerox, Océ, Heidelberg,
Ricoh, Minolta etc.
PCL/PReS
In addition to the range of PCL (Printer Command Language)
production printers, PCL printers are ideal as development
tools, and are useful for remakes and small runs.
Xerox NPS printers with a SUN workstation can also be driven
in PCL mode with PCL/PReS. Generally PCL/PReS is ideal for
ad-hoc "shop-front" applications such as printing water bills,
municipal rate notices, etc. In addition, PCL/PReS now has
optional SCSI connectivity drivers for interfacing to the
printer.
PReS supports the following PCL resource files: SFP or SFL,
and PCX. Not available in Double Byte.
AFPDS/PReS
AFPDS/PReS supports the same printing systems as IPDS/PReS.
The difference between the two is that AFPDS/PReS is a spooling
system whereas IPDS/PReS is for direct connection.
PReS supports the following AFP resource files: IPF, AFX IPI,
TIFF, IOCA and IPG files and more. AFPDS/PReS has been designed
to create the data stream for host computer software, which
accepts AFPDS as input.
AFPDS/PReS is designed to work with a printer control program
such as IBM Print Services Facility (PSF) or Oce PRISMA..
AFPDS/PReS currently supports at least the following AFPDS
systems Oce: PRISMA, SB2000 - SPS, UNIX - SPS, MVS - SPS IBM:
OS/2 - PSF/2, AIX - PSF/6000, DOS/VSE - PSF, VM - PSF, MVS
- PSF EMTEX: OS/2 - Printserver 8000.
Resources (fonts and graphics used in the job) may be included
in the spool file or output to a separate resource file or
files. Double Byte supported.
IJS/PReS
This version of PReS creates spool files on disk which conform
to IJPDS protocol and are run on Kodak Versamark printers via the MPC.
It uses True Type, IPF, FNT fonts and all standard (dynamically
converted) graphics. A variety of printheads are supported,
as are spot/highlight color and Business Color Press (BCP).
IJS/PReS supports printers which conform to the IJPDS (Ink
Jet Printer Data Stream) instruction format. Currently, this
includes: Dijit 3000, Dijit 5000, Dijit 6000, VersaMark MPS
& BCP series. Kodak Versamark printers consist of between 1 and
8 ink-jet RIPS, each of which is paired with a printhead,
controlled by the Kodak Versamark hardware and software.
The output from IJS/PReS is a disk spool file. Records are
in 4KB fixed length blocks. The spool file is fed to the printer
via the usual method, i.e., in the case of a 6240, the file
is read into the Kodak Versamark "MPC2" software (current minimum version
is V1.45) with the input file format set to "IJPDS". Double
Byte supported.
Meta/PReS
XEROX Metacode printers are known as CEP's (Centralised Electronic
Printers), run Line Conditioned Data Streams or Metacode,
and are high-speed devices ranging from 50 to 180 pages per
minute. All models are driven by either a 9-track magnetic
Tape Drive, a spool file presented to a printer management
system, or a S/370 Channel interface supplied by PrintSoft.
Meta/PReS supports the following Xerox Metacode printers:
8790 9790 DocuPrint, 4050 LPS (was simply 4050), DocuPrint
4850 LPS (was 4850), DocuPrint 4090 LPS (was 4090), DocuPrint
4890 LPS (was 4890), DocuPrint 4635 LPS (was originally 4135,
then 4635), DocuPrint 96 LPS, DocuPrint 180 LPS, any other
DocuPrint LPS printer.
PReS supports the following Xerox resource files: FNT, IMG
and FRM/FSL. Not available in Double Byte.
